World Cup 2022 might be in danger of not seeing Colombia as one of the contestants as they lost again in the qualifier this week.

James Rodriguez and Co can be running out of time to save their world cup qualifying campaign after they suffered a loss while taking on Argentina on the road. Albiceleste thumped them through a single goal of Lautaro Martinez at the first half. Despite having already qualified, Argentina still dominated the game. They did have a fairly number of chances but to add their tally but the Colombian goalie who deputised David Ospina here, C Vargas denied some of them apart from the early concession. Colombia, on the other hand, only had a few opportunities to put them back on a level term. This defeat leaves Reinaldo Rueda's men stranded on the seventh in the standings.

With only 17 points in hand and two games remaining, Colombia's fate in Qatar 2022 will be depending on the other teams' results. Their maximum 23 points would mean be in vain if Chile and Peru manage to snatch at least three points. They are also fighting over the last one and a half tickets, should Uruguay stumble.

This week, Chile was able to secure three points on the road while facing off Bolivia. In a topsy-turvy game, Alexis Sanchez and Co defeated the host 3-2. Inter man inspired the team to secure three points by scoring a brace while another goal was scored by Mathias Nunez. In the meantime, Peru eventually held Ecuador in a 1-1 draw and delay Enner Valencia and Co's chance to immediately secure an automatic slot in the world cup this week. Mathias Estrada opened the scoring but Peru equalised through Edison Flores' header.

Based on the current standings, Ecuador (25 points) is on the third, followed by Uruguay, Peru, Chile and Colombia respectively with 22, 21, 19, and 17 points, and the remaining games, Peru and Chile are the ones leading the race for the international playoffs. As for Colombia, their absence in the final round would be the first since South Africa 2010. Here are the leftover matches in CONMEBOL qualifier.
