The European fixtures has began this week with some unexpected results in the round of 16 for the Spanish and German big teams as they all failed to capitalise a win.

In UEFA’s top tier competition, Real Madrid had to encounter another favourite, PSG way too early. They had to travel to Paris at the first leg. It was a tight clash but the home side were dominating the game with more possession plus more decent chances from Kylian Mbappe, Angel Di Maria, Danilo Pereira, Nuno Mendes and Idrissa Gueye. Los Blancos were forced to stay on the backline most of the time. Le Parisien had an opportunity to open the scoring earlier through Messi’s penalty. Unfortunately, it was denied by Thibault Cortois. Their winning goal finally came late as Kylian Mbappe found the back of the net on 93rd minute. It was the only goal of the game in Parc Des Princess.

Meanwhile, the 2020 Champions Bayern could only muster a 1-1 draw against RB Salzburg on the road. Despite taking charge of the game, Die Roeten had to wait till the last minute equaliser by the French winger Kingsley Coman. They cancelled out Salzburg’s prospective win as Adamu’s early goal gave them the lead. The English clubs, however, have been more impressive in the midweek. Both Manchester City and Liverpool managed to keep their clean sheet while taking on Sporting Lisbon and Inter Milan and secured an important away win respectively. Guardiola’s men hammered Lisbon 5-0 whereas The Reds snatched a 2-0 win in San Siro.
