Turkish Super Lig transfer window has just been closed this week with the surprising massive late signings in Galatasaray while the reigning champions, Trabzonspor, welcomed Yusuf Yazici’s return.

Turkish Super Lig, alongside Greek top flight, have just wrapped up their transfer window on September, 8, which is one week later than the top five major leagues in Europe. The Turkish football giant, Galatasaray seemed to have been the most active one in bolstering their squad. Okan Buruk’s side are expected to bounce back this season after their disappointing campaign in 2021/22 when they only finished below tenth in the final standing. This summer, Cim Bom managed to secure the move of four notable figures. They are the forward Mauro Icardi who signs on loan from PSG, Norwich man Milos Rashica also on loan, plus two senior names, Juan Mata and Swiss international Haris Seferovic. They will be joining the other stars who had signed the contract earlier such as Uruguayan international, Lucas Torreira, Belgian veteran striker, Dries Mertens,

Galatasaray were actually on the verge on signing Colombia star, James Rodriguez and the versatile Wolves man, Adama Traore who spent his six months in Barcelona last season. The top scorer in World Cup 2014 has been looking for a way to revive in career by searching for his way back to Europe after his disappointing spell in Everton and the current club, Al-Rayyan. Unfortunately, their move cancelled since Galatasaray and Al Rayyan plus Wolverhampton were unable to reach agreement on the amount of share to cover the players’ huge salary.

Meanwhile, their contenders also sealed the late transfer deals for several notable names. The defending champions, Trabzonspor signed Yusuf Yazici from Lille on loan. The Turkish international who helped Les Douges win their Ligue 1 title in 2021 opted to return home, having spent his six-months on loan with CSKA Moscow last season. Besiktas was able to snatch the signature of another player from Premier League sides, Nathan Redmond. The former Southampton man agreed to move for free. Previously, they have signed Delle Ali from Everton, Romain Saiss from Wolves, Artur Masuaku from West Ham and the Dutch international, Wout Weighorst. Fenerbahce, on the other hand, agreed to buy Michy Batshuayi who was on loan with Besiktas last season for €3.50 million. They also have captured North Macedonia international and the former Leeds man, Edgar Alioski from Al-Ahli,

Another surprising news came from Adana Demispor and Fatih Karagumruk. The former have signed the 34-year-old Russian forward, Artem Dzyuba, on free transfer from Zenit St.Petersburg. Vicenzo Montella’s side seems to be desperate to find the notable replacement for Mario Ballotelli who chose to switch sides to FC Sion. The latter have recruited another Russian international, Magomed Ozdoev, also from Zenit for free. He is set to fill the role of Argentine Lucas Biglia who moved to Istanbul Basaksehir.

At the moment, Besiktas is leading the Super Lig standings after five games followed by Konyaspor with two points clear on the second. They are still above Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor who sit third, fourth and fifth respectively.
