La Liga 2022/23 marks the return of Barcelona on the top of the table as their archrival, Real Madrid failed to clinch a win on Sunday.

Jornada 7 eventually saw the reigning champions, Real Madrid, fail to secure three points at their home turf whereas Blaugrana keeps their position on top. Carlo Ancelotti’s men only mustered a 1-1 draw while playing host to Osasuna. The game seemed to be easy and one-sided at first. Vinicius Junior opened the scoring at the first half. Yet, after the interval, the visitors stunned the home fans through their equaliser as Kike Garcia found the back of the net. Thibault Cortois’s back-up, the Ukrainian shot-stopper, Andrey Lunin, was unable to deny Osasuna’s forward’s looping header. Unfortunately, Los Blancos could not reply. What was worse, their prolific goalscorer, Karim Benzema, who made his return from the injury, contributed to their failure. The Frenchman missed the shot twice plus a penalty as it only hit the crossbar.

Xavi’s men had several other chances but none was converted into another goal, nor was the home side. They attempted to break the deadlock through Kosovo international Verdat Muriqi and South Korean winger, Lee Kang-In. Yet, none succeeded.

Meanwhile, the former Barcelona boss, Ernesto Valverde, is entailing two giants on the third with his new-but-old side, Athletic Bilbao. They sealed a big win over Almeria last weekend as they smashed the visitors 4-0. The Williams brothers, Inaki and Nico, both registered one goal each. The other two goals were scored by Oihan Sanchet and Mikel Vesga’s penalty. They are currently sitting third on the table with three points clear. Should they keep their consistency, Valverde;s men might have a chance to finish on the top four and secure one place in the Champions League next season.
