Barcelona managed to keep their runner up spot in the standings after thumping Real Sociedad in the midweek. They are still battling for the remaining three UCL places alongside Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis who sit on the third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Blaugrana finally secured the expected result in response to their two consecutive defeats at home which cost their chance for a silverware this season. The match in Estadio La Reale was not easy as it seemed. Xavi's men could only score a single goal through Pierre Aubameyang on 11th minute. The home side had several chances to find their equaliser from Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig loanee Alexander Sorloth but neither was able to bury them. Their loss could cost their opportunity to play in Europa League. They could be going down for playing in Conference League instead next season whereas Blaugrana still entails their archival, Real Madrid with 63 points. Unfortunately, they are unlikely to stop Los Blancos from clinching La Liga title this season despite having one game in hand.

Meanwhile, Xavi's side's contenders, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid and Real Betis had contrastive results from one another in the midweek fixtures. Julen Lopetegui's men managed to snatch a 3-2 away win against Levante, Los Rojiblancos was surprisingly held in a goalless draw while hosting the relegation struggler Granada and Real Betis suffered a humiliating 1-0 loss at home versus Elche.

Sevilla collects the same points as Barcelona while Diego Someone's men have two points adrift from them. Real Betis are still separated by four points from Atletico Madrid. There are five games left and their positions are unlikely to change, unless they slump to unnecessary defeats along the way.
