Spanish La Liga this season is unlike any other season. It is already jornada 35 but no team can secure the silverware yet. The teams on the top four, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and their archrival Barcelona plus Sevilla, are involved in the title race till the end. Last weekend, all four teams were locking horns for the supposedly crucial games. The league leader, Los Rojiblancos was travelling to Camp Nou. Diego Simeone’s men were about to stun Blaugrana with several early attempts from Mario Hermoso, Marcos Llorente and Luis Suarez plus Yannick Carrasco. Yet, all was well-denied by Marc Ter-Stegen’s impressive form. Meanwhile, the Catalan side mostly relied too much on Messi from his solo run and two free kicks plus another attempt from Ousmane Dembele, Unfortunately, Atletico’s solid defensive line displayed its true class. Eventually, a goalless draw was a fair result.
Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid 0-0
Barcelona: Marc Ter-Stegen – Clement Lenglet, Gerard Pique, Oscar Mingueza (Ronald Araujo 46) – Frankie de Jong, Pedri (Ousmane Dembele 75), Sergio Busquets (Illaix Moriba 32), Sergino Dest (Sergi Roberto 75), Jordi Alba – Antoine Griezmann, Lionel Messi
Atletico Madrid: Jan Oblak – Mario Hermoso, Felipe, Stefan Savic – Koke, Marcos Llorente, Kieran Trippier, Yannick Carrasco – Thomas Lemar (Saul Niguez 13 (Joao Felix 67), Angel Correa (Geoffrey Kondogbia 73), Luis Suarez.
On the following day, Los Blancos was playing host to Sevilla, which sits on the fourth. Unfortunately, they dropped points and wasted the chance to take the summit as they were held in a 2-2 draw against the Andalusian side. Zidane’s men conceded through Fernando Reges before Marco Asencio found the equaliser. Real Madrid were one goal behind again as Ivan Rakitic’s penalty. They were finally saved by the late own goal of Diego Carlos.
With only three fixtures left, each of the horse will be expected to secure maximum points as well as hope that their contenders would slip along the way. Atleti might be the frontrunner today but the lady luck has not taken her side yet. Each of them still has at least one tough game in hand to deal with, which makes it even tricky to predict who shall laugh the last. Here are the remaining games of all four horses in the race.
