The preparation of World Cup 2022 is already on the go. Within a forthnight on Qatar National Day, 18th December, another venue is ready to open, Al-Rayyan Stadium. It is the fifth one to be launched after Khalifa International, Al Janoub, Al-Bayt and Education City. The homebase of Al-Rayyan Sports Club will be hosting seven matches in the group stage to the round of 16. It has the capacity of 40,000 people and been awarded for Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS) ratings: GSAS Design & Build Certification (four-star rating), GSAS Construction Management Certification (Class A*) and a GSAS Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) Compliance Certificate for its design and sustainable construction. It will be an important milestone for Qatar and Arabian football in general.

If this year’s milestone is about the venue, then on the same Qatar National Day, there is bound to be another notable milestone on the go, the trial event before the World Cup final round, Arab Nations Cup 2021. There are 22 teams confirmed to be the tournament participant. They are Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Those 22 nations will be reduced to 16 teams via playoff, which then are divided in four groups. Only the best two of each group shall advance to quarter finals in the tournament which lasts for 18 days.

Last but not least, the latest update of UEFA Nations League 2020/21. The city hosts of the final-four have been confirmed, as well as its fixtures. Italy has been already appointed as the host with two cities holding the semifinals, Milan and Turin. The former city, which is the current homebase of AC Milan and Inter, with its venue, San Siro, will play host to Spain which is facing off Roberto Mancini’s men, while the latter one with Juventus stadium as the venue will hold the encounter of Les Blues and Kevin De Bruyne and Co. Those matches take place on October 6th and 7th whereas the final will be held on the tenth.
