Ligue 1 2020/21 has finally ended and PSG’s domination in the past two years has been disrupted by Lille, which becomes the new Ligue 1 Champions. They managed to snatch a 2-1 win against Angers on the road. It was enough to secure the long awaited silverware. They took two-goal lead already at the first half through the Canadian international, Jonathan David, followed by the veteran Tirkish international, Burak Yilmaz by a penalty. The home side only responded once through Angelo Fulgini’s late header. The reigning champion Le Parisien also sealed a maximum points by thumping Brest 2-0 through an own goal of Romain Faivre and Kylian Mbappe’s goal. Unfortunately, such victory could not prevent their stunning contender from clinching their fourth Ligue 1 title.

In the meantime, the tight race for the champions league spot next season remained thrilling till the very end. Monaco finally qualified and make their return to European top flight competition next season in spite of the fact that Niko Kovac’s men could only muster a goalless draw against Lens. It was Lyon’s surprising 2-3 defeat from Nice at their home turf. For Les Gones, such result only brought them to Europa League next season accompanied by Marseille, which was held in 1-1 draw by Metz last weekend. Meanwhile, Rennes will be playing for the new UEFA competition, the Conference League. They finished on the sixth in the standings. At the other end of the table, Nimes and Dijon were relegated to Ligue 2 and replaced by the promoted teams, Troyes and Clermont Foot. Nantes which finished on the 17th, will be facing off Toulouse in the relegation play off this week.
