Le Parisien apparently is looking for a new manager again after they appointed a new Sporting Director, Luis Campos. The Portuguese man will be in charge of selecting a new figure at the helm of the club, despite not sacking Mauricio Pocchettino yet.
Campos has been familiar with the position. He was the one who helped Monaco and Lille to build the team to their glorious campaign. He oversaw the purchase of a band of stars in Monaco from 2013 to 2016 such as Radamel Falcao, Ricardo Carvalho, James Rodriguez, Bernardo Silva and Fabinho. In Lille, he also contributed in the squad reinforcement leading to win Ligue 1 in 2021.
No wonder that Campos is now aiming to lure his former partner in Lille, Christophe Galtier, to move to the capital, especially after his failure to guide his current team, OGC Nice, to seal UCL spot for next season. However, the former St.Etienne boss is still tied up with a contract till 2024.
Galtier is actually only a secondary candidate. The primary one is no other than Zinedine Zidane. Unfortunately, the former Real Madrid boss is more interested in taking charge of French national team instead. Moreover, he is not quite impressed with PSG's masterplan.
As Zizou is ruled out, Galtier will be competing with the other three names, Spezia's Thiago Motta who once played for the capital side, Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim and FC Porto boss, Sergio Conceicao.
Thiago Motta, despite being the least experienced compared to the other two, has been deemed talented manager with his so-called revolutionary formation, 2-7-2. Nevertheless, his best achievement so far is only saving Spezia from going down to Serie B last season after being dismissed from Genoa in 2019.
The next candidate is Ruben Amorim. The 37-year old manager has been the key figure in bringing back the league trophy to Sporting Lisbon after 19 years in 2021. He also won Portuguese Super Cup three times, once for Braga and twice for Sporting CP.
Last but not least, the former winger in early 2000s, Sergio Conceicao. Conceicao is the strongest contender for Gaultier and has been more experienced in European competition. He won double titles for Porto in 2020 and this season, plus led his side to reach quarterfinals in UCL 2021 after knocking out Juventus with CR7 in it. Previously, Conceicao led Nantes to finish seventh in 2017 despite only being appointed in the middle of the season.
There are several likely names to consider too. One of whom is River Plate manager who also used to play for Le Parisien in 2007/08 season, Marcello Gallardo. Yet, the Argentine boss is not the favourite and has never worked in European top flight.
