Atletico Madrid might have to work harder to make their hope of winning La Liga title again come true. They still managed to stay on top but only with one point margin with the reigning Champions Madrid and separated by two points with Barcelona. They must win in each and every game as only eight games remain. Last weekend, Jan Oblak and Co could only muster a 1-1 draw while travelling to Andalusia again. Yet, this time they faced off Real Betis. Without the injured Luis Suarez, Diego Simeone’s side was struggling to score after an early goal from Yannick Carrasco. They even had to concede through Christian Tello.

Meanwhile, El Classico this season seemed to be in favour of Los Blancos. They secured another win against their archrival, Barcelona, whose defensive frailties once again was exposed too early and too often. Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos took the advantage to give Madrid their lead, whereas Blaugrana could only reply once through Oscar Miguenza. The Catalan side had several decent chances from Messi and Ilaix Moriba but only hit the crossbar. Zidane’s men had some other chances to extend their lead by Federico Valverde and Vinicius Jr but also only rattled the goal frame. The title race is now even potentially getting tighter with Sevilla joining. Their 4-3 victory against Celta on Monday put them on the fourth with 61 points, just four points away from Barcelona. The next eight weeks ahead will be decisive for all of them.
