AC Milan had to lose the top of the table this weekend as they were only held in a stalemate on the road while the reigning champions Inter claimed the top after their series of win.
On matchday 17, the top of the table changes again. Rossonerri could only muster a 1-1 draw while traveling to Udine. Playing without a number of key men such as Rafael Leao, Ante Rebic and Simon Kjaer, Stefanie Pioli's side has been struggling to break the deadlock. They had several chances but it was Udinese which took the lead through Beto. Led by a caretaker after Luca Gotti was just relieved from his post, the home side was then under pressure as Milan made a number of substitutions. They had to wait till the last minutes to find the equaliser. The scorer was none but Zlatan Ibrahimovic with his acrobatic finish. Such result only put them on the second in the standings.

Meanwhile, Nerazzurri finally found their chance to take over the top after being held on the third since the beginning of the season. Simone Inzaghi's men benefited from the easy oppositions last weekend. Playing host to Cagliari, Inter did not waste the opportunity to score as many as possible. They eventually trashed Joao Pedro and Co 4-0. Lautaro Martinez netted a brace followed by Alexis Sanchez's and Hakan Calhanoglu's goal. Such victory was enough to bump them up to the summit and leading only one point from Milan. At the same time, Napoli, which became league leaders for a while, once again slumped to another home defeat against Empoli. The former Milan man Patrick Cutrone bagged the visitor's winning goal. Il Partenopei had two decent chances to score through Eljif Elmas and Andrea Petagna but both of their strikes only hit the goal frame. Luciana Spalletti's side has to drop to the fourth.
