Inter Milan closed the gap in the standings this week after beating the league leader Napoli , while AC Milan suffered their first loss this season. Both were in thrilling encounters.
Matchday thirteen in Italian Serie A marked the rising intensity on the top of the table. Napoli and AC Milan had to lose points for the first time this season. Il Partenopei were beaten 3-2 by Inter Milan on the road while Milan were crushed 4-3 by Fiorentina.
Luciano Spalletti’s side actually had their lead first as Piotr Zielinski’s strike was beyond Samir Handanovic’s saving. Yet, Nerrazurri was in control afterwards. They managed to respond them by scoring three times consecutively. First, Hakan Calhanoglu successfully converted the penalty and then the former Milan man provided an assist for Ivan Perisic’s header which David Ospina was able to deny but the ball had crossed the goal line first. At the second half, Simone Inzaghi’s men’s counter attack scenario led Lautaro Martinez to add his tally. It was his first goal since October 2. On 78th minute, Dries Mertens netted a lifeline. He and Mario Rui actually had decent chances to put them on a level term but they simply wasted them. This victory brought Inter to close the point margin to four from Napoli.
