Two European champions, Chelsea and Barcelona were disappointingly held in a draw in their first home game in this season this weekend.

The Blues only mustered in a 2-2 draw in their first match in Stamford Bridge this season against Tottenham. They wasted their lead twice as Spurs managed to equalise twice too. The Blues took the lead through their new signings’ collaboration. Kalidou Koulibaly headed home after taking advantage of Marc Cucurella’s corner at the first half. After the interval, Antonio Conte’s men stunned the home fans as Pierre Hojberg put them back on a level term. The Danish international’s goal from a long range shot benefited from Chelsea’s defence’s blunder. The home side then dominated the game and had one decent chance by Kai Havertz before scored their second goal as Reece James found the back of the net. Spurs eventually replied on a last minute through Harry Kane’s header. It was a fair result for both sides.

Chelsea vs Tottenham 2-2

Goals: Kalidou Koulibaly (19), Reece James (77); Pierre Hojbjerg (68), Harry Kane (90+5)

Chelsea: Edouard Mendy – Thiago Silva, Reece James, Kalidou Kolibaly – NGolo Kante (Conor Gallagher 85), Jorginho (Cesar Azpilicueta , Marc Cucurella, Robin Loftus-Creek -  Mason Mount, Kai Havertz (Armando Broja 90), Raheem Sterling (Christian Pulisic 84)

Tottenham: Hugo Lloris –  Christian Romero, Ben Davies, Eric Dier – Pierre Hojberg, Ryan Sessegnon (Richarlison 57}, Rodrigo Bentacur (Yves Biossuma 79), Emerson Royale (Lucas Moura 82)  –  Dejan Kulusevaki, Son Heung-Min (Ivan Perisic 79)

Meanwhile, the promoted side, Nottingham Forest, clinched their first three point in Premier League this season after thumping West Ham 1-0. Their winning goal was scored by their new star, Taiwo Awoniyi. Yet, the former Manchester United goalie, Dean Henderson, was the man of the match as he made a number of crucial saves in the six yard box, including a penalty from Declan Rice. Steven Cooper’s side still needs an improvement, especially at the front. Here are the results of matchday two:

  • Brentford vs Man United 4-0
  • Arsenal vs Licester 4-2
  • Brighton vs Newcastle 0-0
  • Southampton vs Leeds 2-2
  • Manchester City vs Bournemouth 4-0
  • Wolverhampton vs Fulham 0-0

In La Liga, Barcelona’s busy transfer windows has yet paid off as their big signings from Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and even the newly recovered young star, Ansu Fati were kept quiet in a stalemate draw while hosting Rayo Vallecano. They seemingly have not been able to play in unity under Xavi’s form. Despite having several chances, Blaugrana could not break the deadlock. Their two goals were disallowed too leaving them frustrated in this fixture. Sergio Busquets and Co must improve immediately as their archrival, Real Madrid started off their season with a 2-1 win over Almeria. Victor Vasquez and David Alaba netted Los Blancos’s winning goal.
