Two Croatian descent managers, Nico Kovac and Edin Terzic, are set to make their return to the management next season in Bundesliga. They are heading to two sides which shockingly parted ways with their bosses who was just appointed in 2021/22 season.

Those two clubs are VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund. Both opted to dismiss Florian Kohfeldt and Marco Rose due to their disappointing campaign this season.

Die Wolfe appointed Kohfeldt as Mark Van Bommel's replacement in the middle of the season with the expectation to keep their European campaign alive, at least going down to Europa League since they were struggling at the Champions League group stage. Unfortunately, the former Werder Bremen boss was unable to find their consistency in European and domestic competitions. Max Arnold and Co only finished at the bottom of the table in UCL group stage and involved at the relegation battle before finally sitting on the 12th in the final standings.

Meanwhile, Die Borussen was hoping to topple Bayern with Rose at the helm. They were impressed by his stint in Gladbach since he was able to defeat Bayern two seasons in a row, guide them to seal one berth in UCL and brought them to the knockout stage in the European top flight competition 2020/21. However, the Austrian boss seemed to be in difficulty to unite the team of stars in Dortmund. They were hapless against Die Roeten and unable to stop their contender's total domination.

The appointment of Nico Kovac is rather expected. The former Croatian captain in World Cup 2006 has had stunning spells in German soil as a manager. He led Frankfurt to win DFB Pokal in 2018, and Bayern Munich to clinch double winner in 2019 before being sacked in 2020. He then signed for AS Monaco and guided them to finish in top three in 2021. Sadly, his contract was once again terminated by the ligue 1 side because of the poor results. Kovac hopefully could at least repeat what he did in Frankfurt with unknown and young stars in the squad such as Ridle Baku, Denmark international Jonas Wind and Felix Nemcha next season.

In the meantime, Edin Terzic was actually the caretaker in 2020/21 season when the club relieved Lucien Favre from his post. He managed to inspire the team to bounce back and finished third on the table plus clinched DFB Pokal. Terzic was then promoted as technical director following Marco Rose's signing. The 39-year old coach is ready to be back on the touchline to challenge Bayern who might lose Lewandowski next season. Unfortunately, Dortmund has already sold their prolific goal scorer Erling Haaland. His replacement, Karim Adeyemi, is seen more as the attacking winger than a number nine. It would be a chance for Donyell Malen to prove his quality more to fill the void in Die Borussen's frontman. Next season will be his first ever one for the man who used to be more well known a coach assistant.
