Bundesliga  2021/22 returns after the winter break with a surprising result as Bayern Munich was humbled for the third time this season. Meanwhile, their closest contender, Borussia Dortmund secured a win to close the gap.

Die Roeten was without thirteen players in their squad due to the combination of injuries, COVID-19 contraction and African Cup of Nations call-up last weekend, including Leroy Sane, Manuel Neuer and Leon Goretzka. Yet, they were still confident to host Borussia M’Gladbach. Thomas Muller and Co took the lead first as Robert Lewandowski found the back of the net. However, the visitors did not take long to equalise through Florian Neuhaus’s goal and turned the table four minutes later as Stefan Lainer headed home. Gladbach was already leading before the interval. Julian Nagelsmann’s sides strived to find more goals to restore their lead at the second half. Unfortunately, they were unable to even score an equaliser. It is their third loss this season but Die Roeten is still leading by six points from Dortmund on the second.

Die Borussen, on the other hand, managed to snatch three points in a goal galore encounter against Frankfurt. Marco Rose’s men were two goals behind first as Colombian international, Rafael Borre , netted a brace. At the second half, they took control of the game and replied three times. Firstly, Thorgan Hazard did it followed by Jude Bellingham’s header. Finally, Mahmoud Dahoud’s goal from a long range strike helped them to secure the necessary three points away from home. Dortmund is now sitting on the second collecting 37 points, or still six points above Hoffenheim on the third. Here are the other results on spieltag 18:
