Borussia Dortmund is currently searching for another striker after the heartbreaking news about Sebastian Haller’s health issue.

The Ivorian striker who just joined a few weeks ago has been diagnosed with a testicular tumor. He will be ruled out for several months in the 2022/23 season after his surgery, meaning that he would not be able to be in the squad for the whole season at most. Thus, Die Borussen needs to find a short-term solution. They have shortlisted several forwards who could be available for a year loan instead of signing it permanently. They spread across Europe from the former Premier League striker to the one playing in the continental-suspended Russian Premier League. Here are Dortmund’s targets:

  • ·Edison Cavani. The Uruguayan international is a prolific and experienced forward who excels at the aerial duel, positioning as well as creating space for his teammate, which is actually better than Haller. What’s more, he is currently unattached after his contract with Manchester United was not extended. The only weakness is his age. Cavani is already 35 years old and he is best used as the super subs. Last season, he netted twice and provided one assist in 20 games of all competition.
  • Mauro Icardi. He is the best-fit striker who has fallen down the pecking order in PSG. The former Inter man has never regained his peak performance in Serie A. Yet, he could still contribute quite well with five goals in 30 matches last season. The main issue of the 29-year-old Argentine comes from his private life. His wife and agent, Wanda Nara, often draws his attention too much, impacting his form. She could potentially complicate the deal in the future.
  • ·Krystof Piatek. The 27-year-old striker could be a perfect option considering his experience in Bundesliga and Italian Serie A. He has been on loan for several times too. The Hertha Berlin man spent his six months as a loanee in Fiorentina after the Serie A outfit sold Dusan Vlahovic in January. The Polish international scored seven goals and made one assist in 28 games, which has shown that he is a more effective forward than Icardi. His only main problem is the inconsistency.
  • Jhon Cordoba. The Colombian international is another option to consider. The FC Krasnodar man has years of experience in Bundesliga too with, Hertha Berlin, Mainz and FC Koln. The 29-year-old forward is quite lethal upfront, especially during his time with Koln. In the 2021/22 season, he managed to bag six goals and provided four assists in 15 games during his debut in Russia. Unfortunately, he is quite prone to injuries.

Apart from those names, three other figures were considered, Luis Suarez, Edin Dzeko, and Arkadiusz Milik. Suarez did not seem to have further responses despite being offered. The Uruguayan striker signed for his old club back in his home soil, Nacional Montevideo. Meanwhile, Dzeko refused to leave Inter Milan although he might only be a back-up after the return of Romelu Lukaku. Last but not least, Milik has just sealed a permanent contract with Marseille. He has been in form since moving from Napoli last January. So, it is quite a long shot for the Polish international to sign on loan again.
